Screen Test HMPV is a rapid visual immunoassay for the presumptive qualitative detection of human metapneumovirus from human nasal/nasopharyngeal swabs. This kit is intended for use as an aid in the diagnosis of human metapneumovirus infection. Human metapneumovirus (HMPV) is a respiratory virus of the Pneumoviridae family. This virus has a single-stranded (ss), negative-sense, non-segmented RNA genome of approximately 13.3 kb and is a major cause of acute respiratory tract infections (ARTIs) in children, immunocompromised patients, and the elderly. This pathogen is also considered a leading cause of death in infants under five years of age. Studies have shown that HMPV represents a significant economic burden on healthcare systems worldwide, affecting up to 86% of the global population of infants under five years of age. Clinical signs and symptoms associated with HMPV are primarily respiratory problems, ranging from cough, wheezing, and fever to more serious complications, such as bronchiolitis and pneumonia. HMPV infects and primarily affects the lower respiratory tract (LRT), requiring mechanical ventilation in severe cases. HMPV infection has also been associated with the onset of neuro-related symptoms, such as encephalitis and febrile seizures. Regarding its epidemiology, HMPV begins circulating among the general population during the winter and persists until late spring. The traditional basis for diagnosing HMPV is virus isolation and identification; PCR can be used to diagnose HMPV. Rapid immunoassay for HMPV has become increasingly important with the availability of effective antiviral therapy. HMPV testing offers a simple and qualitative diagnosis of HMPV infection.
